Your insider’s guide to audiovisual industry trends

In today’s fast-paced business world, the way we market our goods and services is constantly changing. Advancements in audiovisual technology have provided new ways to achieve communication goals and stand out from the crowd. Digital installations have become a mainstay at industry events, and high-powered projectors offer next-level visuals.

It can be hard to keep up with the almost dizzying evolution of AV technology. If you’re looking to learn about the leading AV technology trends in 2019 and find out how you can improve your next conference, gala or roadshow with integrated AV systems, read on.

At Microhire, we provide superior audiovisual technology, design, and installation services to a broad range of clients. Get in touch with us today, and can help you deliver an exceptional event.

1. Holograms

Holograms are no longer a distant future prospect; they’re here with us today and more realistic than ever. Hologram effects, which are grounded in projection technology, have evolved in leaps and bounds in recent years. Advancements in the quality and resolution of projector displays have seen the illusion of holograms become increasingly realistic and three-dimensional.

The value of hologram effects for business conference and marketing purposes is obvious—why fly a keynote speaker or special guest in for an event when they can appear on stage without actually being present? The development of new materials and techniques in holographic technology has also helped hologram solutions become more affordable.

In 2019, we expect to see interest and investment in hologram effects at live events continue to skyrocket. A guaranteed way to wow audiences from all walks of life, the use of projection to create visual phenomena including floating animations and holographic displays is more exciting and impressive than ever before.

2. LED walls

One of the biggest AV trends in 2019 to date has been LED walls. Whether you’re looking to use the latest vision technology to get your message across or better engage your target market and audience, the new-gen LED walls are suitable for almost any event type.

Although only a few years ago, LED walls looked like something out of Minecraft, the latest technology has delivered incredibly high-definition and sophisticated models that provide an engaging and cost-effective way to display and promote content.

LED walls can be used indoors or outdoors to display signage, share videos, showcase graphics, stream news feeds and deliver practical information. As versatile as they are impactful, LED walls can be hired for events of all descriptions and purposes.

3. Visual projections

When we talk about the AV technology trends driving 2019 so far, it’s hard to go past widescreen projections and interactive video walls. Widescreen is now used on most major productions, awards nights, conferences and gala events.

The latest projection mapping equipment supports mixing content across multiple screens and mapping projections onto complex surfaces, including whole buildings.

You can see how it’s done in a recent Screen Forever conference, vision mixing of ‘live to screen’ cameras and content helped enhanced the TV studio theme along with the design of a TV studio set that recreated the experience of a ‘live show’. Similarly, at the 30-year celebration for the Committee for Melbourne, widescreen projection was crucial for capturing the outstanding achievements of the committee.

4. Augmented reality

Unlike virtual reality, where you are dropped into a staged environment, augmented reality (AR) can layer anything you want over the top of what already exists to create an amplified experience. You may have seen a rudimentary version of this with smartphone apps, but the technology will be very exciting very soon.

Microsoft is developing a software called Hololens, that allows simple glasses-style lenses to be able to reveal layers of realistic graphics. As you scan the room elements will unfold, screen content comes to life in a 3D-like manner, walls seemingly disappear to show any number of possibilities.
